Pokoknya kalo kita liat penampilan dari Rombongan Angklung mang Udjo ini, dijamin berdecak kagum dan bangga deh jadi Bangsa Indonesia! apalagi aku, bangga jadi orang sunda deh. Highly recommended nonton penampilan Mang Udjo, Hidup Udjo!
Do you know Freddy Mercury? Do you know Bohemian Rhapsody?
I think youth of 80s must now who is Freddy Mercury and what is Bohemian Rhapsody. Yup the first one is the vocalist of the outstanding band of 80s, namely Queen. Queen's hit "Bohemian Rhapsody" is one of the everlasting song until now. We are youth born in early 80s still can heard this song is sung by today's musician. No wonder, because Bohemian Rhapsody is a unique yet complicated masterpiece of Queen. Bohemian Rhapsody is a hard song to play. It mix between classical music and rock, what a work and fabulous song.
But on 25th of June ago, i really proud to be Indonesian to hear that song. Why? because i see a remarkable performance from Mang Udjo Angklung Group in 2nd World Peace Foorum dinner at Sultan Hotel hosted by Minister of State Secretary, Mr Hatta Radjasa. To entertain the guests consist of world figures in politics, media and business from all over the world the minister Hatta Radjasa invite Mang Udjo Groups of Angklung to perform some tricks and songs.
In the beginning all guest were given an Angklung (a music instrument made from bamboo, produce sound by shake it) which has been labeled by name of 7 islands in the Archipelago like Sumatera, Jawa, Sulawesi, Kalimantan, Madura and Papua. Each island has its own melody. And amazingly mang udjo's son can teach the guest to sing a song using the Angklung together. We sing about three songs in that dinner using Angklung.
But something remarkable is when the Group sing Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody and Marron5's This Love in the end of the performance. I myself as an Indonesian very proud to hear that song. How can a bamboo instrument like that playing a complicated songs like Bohemian Rhapsody and This Love. That was one of my best dinner ever and i think it really touch the guests heart by enjoying the performance.
For me it proves that we should be proud to be a rich nation by various local culture like Angklung, and for the guest it shows what really Indonesia is. Thanks Mang Udjo....
